What is APTN Connect?
APTN Connect is a dedicated fiber network connecting eight of the world’s major cities: Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Washington D.C., London, Paris, Brussels and Rome. More cities will be added during 2004.
What does it do?
APTN Connect provides a transmission path for high-resolution video — from North American cities to major European cities, and vice versa — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It uses 6.5 MB of ‘portable’ bandwidth — comfortably allowing delivery of broadcast standard audio/video. APTN Connect’s bandwidth can be expanded up 34 MB, if required — to carry high-quality programming or content.
How do I send & receive video via APTN Connect?
If you are a broadcaster in a foreign bureau, you can feed video to a destination city via a connection to the local APTN bureau. If you want 24/7 access, you can install your own ‘ports’ — which are then linked to APTN Connect — in any of the cities mentioned above.
APTN Connect can also allow for two-way video streaming providing you have both ‘transmit’ and ‘receive’ ports in each location.
If you are a broadcaster only wanting to distribute video on an ad-hoc basis, you can simply book and playout from the APTN bureau in your resident city.
Please note: clients who feed from local APTN bureaus will incur an additional playout charge.
How much will it cost to install our own ports?
That depends on how many ports you wish to install — and in how many cities.

- APTN Connect is fully compliant with applicable MPEG, and analogue video
- specifications including, if applicable, MPEG 4.2.0/4.2.2 and RS-250B. Our MPEGII service offering meets ETR 290 specifications.
