AP Florida Video
A new service providing weekday video
from the capital on issues of statewide interest.
from the capital on issues of statewide interest.
The state government does things every day that have an impact on your viewers. On all the issues your audience cares about - from class size to medical malpractice insurance, from homeland security to the environment - the governor, the legislature and the courts are involved. No one covers these issues like The Associated Press, with its eight bureaus across Florida.
Now, AP Florida Video provides the video to go with AP stories on these issues. AP Florida Video provides a weekday feed of VO/SOTs and VOs on the state government stories that directly affect your viewers. AP Florida Video also offers customized coverage, including liveshots from attractve stand-up positions, crewing, editing and video transmission. And AP Florida Video affiliates also have the opportunity to subscribe to AP's video coverage of Cuba.
Editorial Depth and Breadth
With more than 40 journalists covering the state, AP brings unparalleled editorial depth to AP Florida Video. Our crews are part of a much larger team: 40 reporters, editors and still photographers who cover all aspects of news in Florida.

Every one of those journalists has contacts and experience that benefits AP Florida Video. Whether it's uncovering a key fact that enables AP Florida Video stations to get ahead of the competition or using their contacts to help arrange for hard-to-get interviews, AP journalists make an important daily contribution to the video feed.
AP Florida Video is based in the AP bureau in the Florida Press Building in Tallahassee. We do our feeds live from the bureau, and have live standup capability there and in the news conference room on the ground floor of the press center.
Daily Video Coverage
The AP Florida Video feed is at 4 p.m. every weekday. When news warrants, we add extra feeds.

The focus of the feed is on providing the Tallahassee-based video necessary to enable stations to report on the top statewide stories of the day, including how the governor, legislators, government officials, state agencies and the courts address key issues in the state.
The service also provides a Fall Football package of post-game video from Florida State University and University of Florida home games.

Each feed consists of VO/SOTs, VOs and/or raw video. All cut video is shot-sheeted. VO/SOTs and VOs are scripted. The service will be capable of feeding major events from AP's live locations.
Custom Live Shots, Live Locations and Special Requests
AP Florida Video maintains live capability from the Florida Press Building - from the AP bureau and the news conference room on the ground floor. In addition, pending state government approval, we will have hard-wired live standup capability from the state capitol (with a view of the building in the immediate background) and the Supreme Court (with the front entrance of the court in the immediate background). Stations can have their own reporters do standups, or can arrange for live talkbacks with lawmakers or other newsmakers from these locations.

Optional Cuba Service
Coverage of events in Cuba has always been important, but it is growing in urgency as the Cuban population spreads throughout Florida and as Fidel Castro's rule lengthens in the 21st century. AP's bureau in Havana provides access to often hard-to-get video.

The Cuba service delivers an average of three story feeds per week from Havana, covering general news, entertainment and sports.

High Quality Video
To deliver this service, AP installs a fulltime video pathway into the station. AP will supply the necessary receiving equipment and either a satellite dish or a special feed horn and LNB to allow an existing satellite dish (for example, one used to receive CNN from AMC III) to receive the AP video signal.
AP Florida Video feeds will be delivered via this pathway. This channel will also give stations access to a broader range of AP video services to help them cover major international stories such as the war on terrorism or any military action in Iraq. AP's video infrastructure literally circles the globe, with crews in more than 80 international bureaus.
Stations with fiber connectivity to their local AT&T POP will also be able to receive point-to-point video transmissions for custom services.
AP Florida Video is produced using state of the art DV cameras and edit gear. The bureau is equipped with two edit bays and a feed and quality control point, as well as computers linking AP Florida Video's news operation to the worldwide AP computer network.
